Digital video motion analysis: Editing
Edit your digitized video shots into short segments containing
only the motion you want to analyze (using MoviePlayer extended
by the QuickTime Pro software).
- Open the "MoviePlayer" application (you can find
it in under the Miscellaneous submenu on the Apple menu).
- Select "Open" under the "File" menu and
find one of the shots iMovie stored for you (recall that these
are in the "... Media" folder associated with your
movie. The individual shots should have the names you gave them
in iMovie.
- Click through the movie using the arrow buttons until you
have identified the beginning of the part of the shot you want
to analyze. Hold down the shift key while clicking the forward
button to select the rest of the shot you want (the selected
shot is represented by the shaded portion of the slider control
in the movie window).
- Do the following sequence to save that part of the shot as
its own QuickTime file: Copy, New, Paste, Save As... [shortcut:
hold down the Apple key and type c,n,v then select Save As..
under the "File" menu]. There are two options:
- Select "Make Movie Self-Contained", give it a new
name and select a different folder to save the new file. Do this
if you intend to transfer the video file to another computer
or put it on the Web (note that then your shot is independent
from the original iMovie files, as long as you save it in a different
folder).
- Select "Save normally" to just save editing information
about the video you have selected; do this if you only intend
to analyze or view the movie on the "All-in-one" computer
(note that you have to save the original iMovie files if you
choose this option).
- Once you have saved your edited shots, you can quit MoviePlayer.
