Series Circuits

Objective:

1. Use circuit symbols, and construct series circuits.

2. Use voltmeters & ammeters correctly in circuit.

Materials: bulbs, voltage source, meters

Methods and Analysis

1. Sketch a series circuit diagram with 2 bulbs, 12 V source, A & V meters.

2. Wire circuit as shown, except with two bulbs (must be checked by physics teacher.)

Using ammeters and voltmeters meters, record all data on a VIRP table.

3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for 3 bulbs in series.

4. Unscrew 1 bulb at a time; record results.

5. Summary that compares VIRP tables, rules of series circuits, and proper meter connections.

Parallel Circuits

Objective: Analyze parallel circuit with Voltmeter, Ammeter

Materials: V, A meters, bulbs, wires, power source

Methods & Analysis

1. Sketch 2 bulbs in parallel circuit with A & V meters.

2. Wire it. (must be checked by physics teacher.) Using A & V meters, record all data on VIRP table.

3. Repeat for 3 bulbs in parallel.

4. Unscrew one bulb; 2 bulbs; record and explain results.

5. Compare VIRP tables and state the rules for parallel circuit.
