The Physics CD (The PCD) is set of HTML documents, images, movies, and animations which are viewed using one of the two major Internet browsers - Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer. These browsers evolve very quickly adding new features and replacing old ones. The PC has similarly evolved to take advantage of these changing features. As a result, some features of the PC will not run under older versions of these browsers.
To ensure that no such conflicts occur, up to date versions of both browsers have been provided on the PCD CD-ROM. At this time, these versions are Netscape 4.72 and Internet Explorer 5.0. If you do not have a suitable version of one of these browsers installed please close your browser now and install the newer version provided. They can be found in the Netscape and IntExp5 directories.
(Netscape is the preferred browser at this time as The PCD has been more extensively tested using that browser.)
The Physics CD CD-ROM also includes some other components that you'll need. The directions for their installation follow. You will install them (if they are not already installed on your system) one at a time. Clicking on the underlined, link below will take you to the installation instructions.
If you are not familiar with the operation of your computer, you should probably seek the assistance of someone who is. The work we have to do here takes a very short time if you are experienced with locating and executing files. But it can be frustrating if you are inexperienced.

Version 4.00 of The PCD was created in August of 2000. These instructions will show you how to install the versions of software that were most up to date at that time. Note: With the exception of the fonts, all of these have changed since the spring of 1999. |
